A New Website Concept

October 2, 2009

We have been accustom to think of website as a collection of related web pages, images, videos or other digital assets that are addressed with a common domain name or IP address in an Internet Protocol-based network. A web site is hosted on at least one web server, accessible via the Internet or a private local area network.

The website design template is usually a web page document in plain text including hyperlinks, pictures, graphics, and some video embedded in the infrastructure.  And we really like the bells and whistles of Flash animation.

But what about a non-traditional way of building a website?  A way that still provides all the essential information and tools but package it a little differently.

Boone Oakley, an Ad agency, took a different approach of how they would present themselves on the web.  Their website is on YouTube.  It’s several videos which consist of hotspots creating a different experience for clients and potential future employees.

I must say a very clever idea!

Literally, watching the website as a viewer I’m clear on how they want me to see their company.  They were able to add so much of their personality and their story in this way.

I can’t wait to see what will they come up with next?

This forces others, especially as an Interactive media graduate student, to think outside the box of new ways to market and brand.
